Let’s face it – our love of Black Friday is deeply rooted in our childhood anticipation for the toys Santa promised to bring. I’m pretty sure that Amazon’s wishlist feature can be traced back to the hours spent pouring over the annual toy catalogs with crayons, circling everything that we wouldn’t mind finding under the tree. And every year there was one toy that was more eagerly anticipated than the others, the one that would make our friends green with envy and bring us everlasting happiness. The memory of that toy lust even spawned A Christmas Story, cementing a nostalgic place in pop culture for Ralphie’s obsession with the Red Rider BB Gun for all time. We all remember what it was like to want that one perfect toy so very much!
We thought it would be fun to take a look at what those hottest toys have been throughout the last century and ended up going all the way back to 1903. What toy was your favorite?

What happened to cabbage patch kids?
They’re listed under 1983.
My guess for this year will probably be the ridiculous Fijit toy. They remind me too much of Furbies…
Actually, I suspect the hot wheels wall track will be the ‘it’ gift for young men.
Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure Game. All gaming systems… Portal of power to select your character… 30+ characters and the already have expansion packs!!! Just released in Mid October. Our son got it for his birthday… Can’t get him off the WII!!!
I’m thinking it will be the tablets. The Leapfrog Tablet and the Vtech Innotab for preschool aged kids and the Rockin Mickey Mouse and drumming Elmo for little kids. The Monster High dolls were really big last year, I couldn’t find a single one on the shelf in Dec. and every employee I talked to said they just fly off the shelves. That Hot wheels wall track does look awesome.
Wall tracks are stupid. My son got a set for his birthday in Sept, we played with it and it kept breaking and falling off the wall. We took it back and got a bunch of Transformers. There is so much to choose from anymore, how can one toy be the most wanted?
I work in retail and be in and out of the toys department for a couple of months…each customer has been looking for something different. But in the last 2 weeks or so its been more about the Beyblades and IPods.
